Now, THAT was a time…when legendary musicians like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Tanya Tucker graced stages and nearly stunned audiences silent with their powerful voices and down to earth songs.
Today’s fast pace means it’s rare to experience a musically real and inspiring show. For that reason, Didi Perry is a rare musical gem. Didi evokes the soulful sounds of such female greats as Tina Turner and Linda Ronstadt and rocks it out with songs by top caliber female musicians she listened to while growing up in small, French Canadian, Vimy, Alberta.
In her family the first musical sounds came to her from ‘Pepere’, (That’s grampa!) whose fiddle playing may be responsible for her impeccable sense of timing and rhythm. As a young girl she played flute and percussion in the high school and local band, and later became a drum major for the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, creating a seven-minute black light precision stick drill routine that’s still being performed, before retiring from military service in 1996 after receiving her Canadian Decoration.
She had the talent. She had the skills. Didi needed to accomplish one more goal. She credits her theatre experience for giving her the third element she lacked: the confidence to go out and give audiences a performance to remember. She accomplished her goal beautifully and warms her audiences with touching renditions of old favorites like “Crazy”, and energizes them with upbeat two steps like “She’s in Love with the Boy”. Didi adamantly she says her show is interactive, “I love people dancing and having fun!”
Didi’s debut cd, “Dancin’ to the Radio” garnered much praise from audiences and critics alike. She continues to evolve as a musician, partnering with veteran song-writer Jack Ownbey for her second and most recent cd “Simple Country Girl” -- a collection of original traditional country ballads and up tempo songs. Released in February 06, the debut single ‘Are you Foolin’ Me Cowboy’ climbed to #1 on the European Country Music Association radio chart, where it remained for four weeks. Her second single, a smooth, groovin’ tune called ‘Nashville Tennessee’ will be hitting the airwaves in May of this year.
Her style is Americana Country. Her show is the perfect mix of essential classics and great new material – from Anne Murray to Jo Dee Messina – there’s a common theme here: strong women and passionate lyrics brilliantly performed by Didi Perry.
